Happy D5100 Owner at 10,000 Frames

I've owned my D5100 for exactly six years and have shot almost 10,000 Frames with it. It was bought new and remains my first, and only digital camera. :) (I suspect that many of y'all shoot 10,000 Frames/Year!)

Although it's long obsolete, I still treasure it and the pictures I capture. Someday I'd like to step up to the D7xxx-series or perhaps the D500, but until then, I'll soldier on. I started in the Nikon world over 40 Years ago and wouldn't consider any other brand.

Thanks everyone. Those are astounding shutter actuation counts!

It was tough for me to step away from my Kodachrome era, where each shot was perhaps $0.25 and taken with great care. I now shoot with relative abandon. My wife still shoots selectively with her Nikon Coolpix P100 because she dislikes looking through hundreds of similar shots to identify a handful she wants to keep.

I probably put like 20k on my 5100 in the year-some abuse I put it through, but since getting 600 I never saw the light of night (nor was it even remotely usable above ISO640, so that's just that). 5200 and newer are SO drastically better entry-level cams that I honestly can't love 5100 or below for any real reason these days.

Mine got me started and carried me to proper equipment and nowadays I use its original battery in my Df, but aside from that it's sleeping safe and sound.

Thanks again y'all. I do need to take more pictures,

My brother just sent me our Dad's early 1970s-era Nikkor 35mm f/2.8 with factory converted AI. I figure it converts to 50mm on my D5100. It should be a nice walk-around lens and will be fun to play with. The last time I messed around with an old Nikkor lens using manual settings, it was at a car show and a woman nearby was glaring at me like I was some kind of freak. I wasn't blocking her shot. I just think she was jealous.

Still shooting with my D5100, now at 17,679 frames shot. Up from 10,000 nearly two years ago and I still love the camera.

I continue to think about upgrading, but haven't done any research yet. A bit more resolution and a faster burst rate would be welcome additions.

You 5100 has been serving you well, some great RR images. But if you need us to talk you in to buying something new we'll be glad to help out.
My 7100 has 21K after 4 1/2 years.

Thank you. Your results using your D7100 are outstanding across all kinds of subject matter and compositions. I guess the upside of keeping an older camera is our familiarity with them, knowing what's likely to work in a situation and what might not. In any case, I'm sticking with Nikon. After 40 years, I'm not about to jump ship.:encouragement:

I think my next photo expenditure will be a slide and negative scanner, either the Epson V600 or V800. I have thousands to scan including my parent's slides, so the greater capacity of the V800 might be worth its much greater price. Though, if it's made in China and is affected by new import tariffs, it'll likely be the more affordable V600.
