Thumbs up Happy D5100 Owner at 10,000 Frames

I've owned my D5100 for exactly six years and have shot almost 10,000 Frames with it. It was bought new and remains my first, and only digital camera. (I suspect that many of y'all shoot 10,000 Frames/Year!)

Although it's long obsolete, I still treasure it and the pictures I capture. Someday I'd like to step up to the D7xxx-series or perhaps the D500, but until then, I'll soldier on. I started in the Nikon world over 40 Years ago and wouldn't consider any other brand.

I just sold my D5000 to upgrade to a D7200.

I took 17000 shots with the D5000 over the 8 years. It was a great first DSLR

Wow -- that is excellent performance. With that in mind, I shouldn't figure on doing the upgrade when my D5100 breaks.

The D5100 is a great camera. AND you need to be taking more photos

My D7100 has about 45,000 and my D750 has about 30,000 on it.

Thanks everyone. Those are astounding shutter actuation counts!

It was tough for me to step away from my Kodachrome era, where each shot was perhaps $0.25 and taken with great care. I now shoot with relative abandon. My wife still shoots selectively with her Nikon Coolpix P100 because she dislikes looking through hundreds of similar shots to identify a handful she wants to keep.

I probably put like 20k on my 5100 in the year-some abuse I put it through, but since getting 600 I never saw the light of night (nor was it even remotely usable above ISO640, so that's just that). 5200 and newer are SO drastically better entry-level cams that I honestly can't love 5100 or below for any real reason these days.

Mine got me started and carried me to proper equipment and nowadays I use its original battery in my Df, but aside from that it's sleeping safe and sound.
