    Replacement batteries for d5000

I haven't been active for a long time, nor have I taken very many photos. Now that I got the camera bag out of the closet, I have found that the batteries always need charging. I have a dual battery system. I know that generic batteries don't register with the camera, but that was a few years ago. Is that still a problem? Does anyone have some suggestions for replacement batteries that the camera will accept?

You'll need an EN-EL9a battery for your D5000. Amazon has numerous third - party replacement batteries in the $10 or $15 range.

In addition to what Paul said... be sure you go on-line to Nikon's web site and check to see that your D5000's software is up to date on the latest versions... and update it as needed... Nikon played/changed a lot of those battery incompatibility issues in their updates as I recall...

Thanks for the suggestions. I need to figure out how to do the download/update thing.
I made a mistake in my original post, which it probably really doesn't matter. I have a d5100.

It matters very much... The D5100 uses the EN-EL14 versus the EN-EL9a.
