Pop up flash problem.

Evening everyone.
i have tried a search to see if this has been asked before, but couldn't find any references, so I apologise if I've missed it.
My 5100 flash does not lift fully when released ( a common fault I believe, also with the 3100 and 7100 too).
i know the problem is that the small plastic tag that the lift spring rests behind has snapped off. I could try to fix it myself, but wondered if anyone has had this done by Nikon service, and if so, what it costs.
Thanking you in advance.

I would just contact Nikon and see what they say they will charge. I would assume that they would be willing to give you at least a ball park figure.

Thank you for your replies.
I rang Nikon and spoke to their service dept, but they said some items have a fixed price, but this is a 'Technician assessment' job and wouldn't give a figure at all.
Thet would give an estimate after checking, but would charge £16.00 (ish) if that was refused. Turn around time about 3 weeks. I was just hoping to get an idea so I wasn't without it for too long.

Another route to go that would/may be cheaper and actually in the long run better. would be to just get a Yongnuo hot shoe mounting flash. You can get one for under $100 US that will work great to replace the built in flash. No camera down time and you would know your price before hand. I have the YN568EX, but you don't need that one for your camera. You can get the next model down, YN565EX??? Good luck

I can tell you based on a good bit of experience with Nikon repair services that you're better off, fiscally speaking, getting a third party flash. Otherwise you're going to be paying shipping and insurance (both ways!) for your entire camera body which you'll then be without for at least a month. I'll go ahead and guesstimate your charges will be in the neighborhood of $150 for the repair and that's being conservative.

For a lot less time, money and irritation you can have a *significantly* better flash by getting a Yongnuo 565EX from Am-a-zon.

Yes, that's probably a better solution, thank you for that, it makes more sense and will most likely give better results.
Many thanks, much appreciated.
