Hi Friends, I am new here and looking for some help and information in case any of you have experienced similar problem.

I use Nikon D5000 for last 6 years and until recently everything was working fine. Recently I noticed that almost every picture taken from the camera has a dark line cutting across the photo. Tried number of settings but the line is still there. Cleaned up the lens from outside, no piece or hair or any dirt I believe (though not sure).

Have added some pictures for reference.

any ideas or suggestions ?

Welcome to the forum,my first thought is you have a hair on the sensor, dont know your camera but if you haven't a ready done it set the camera to sensor clean or mirror up and fire it without a lens on,look inside while the mirror is up,but dont touche ANY THING yet.

Thanks Mike !
That was very quick and looks like you have solved my problem. I set the camera to "mirror up" and noticed what possibly could be a hair strand while the mirror was up. have not cleaned it yet. Plan to do it patiently when I have some more time.

Thanks buddy !!!!

Get yourself a rocket blower if you haven't got one yet and give it a few bursts of air. That might do the trick. DO NOT try and get it off with your fingers, and this is a really big DO NOT.. DO NOT use canned air !!!! I can not stress this enough!~!!!!!

And make sure the opening of the body is facing down so whatever debris is inside falls out (rocketblaster faces upwards). Otherwise you will move any dust/debris all around inside.
