picture/video orientation after shooting

I shot a video with my camera held on its side instead of its normal upright position.

When I moved it to my computer the video plays sideways instead of upright. Also plays back on the camera that way.

How can I prevent this from happening?

I haven't done it, but you will probably have to use a video editing software. Here is something that I found. Depending on the computer OS you are using there may already be video editing software available to do this. Windows Movie Maker is one that comes to mind.

In the camera "Setup" menu, do you have Auto Image Rotation/Rotation Tall (something like that) set to "ON"? If it is set to off, that is your problem.

I forgot that you need to check the Playback Tab (It is just an Arrow symbol) under "Menu" to get the Rotation Tall option.

This should allow you to play it back on the camera correctly.
