Battery question

Hi, I just got my D5100 on Friday and haven't had much time to play with it yet. I charged the battery fully on Friday and used it somewhat today. My battery still has about 2/3s left on it but I will be shooting a lot Today (Sunday). Do these batteries have a memory?. Will I do it harm if I charge it up fully at this point so it will be fresh when I go out in the morning, or is it better to let it run all the way down before charging?

There's no memory effect with lithium ion batteries so charge as and when you like.
There is generally a life of around 1000 charge cycles or so though.

Your genuine Nikon batteries have no memory. Go ahead and charge them up. NEVER let them run down to empty! Suggestion: when you're done with your camera for the day, remove your batteries from the camera. They'll last longer.

Mark, you'll find that the battery will run down faster if you use Live View a lot, but in any case I've found that the battery has excellent longevity. Even if I don't use the camera for several weeks, it's rarin' to go when I am. Eventually you may wish to purchase a second battery just for a bit of extra assurance during a long day of shooting.

You'll love the camera. I bought my D5100 1-1/2 years ago. It's my first digital camera and I am still infatuated with it.

Hi Sandpatch, thanks for that info on live view, I did not know that. Yes I am going to get myself a second battery very soon for just the reason you stated. I want to have the extra security of knowing I won't be stuck if my battery dies on me.
