HELP! Screen went blank, camera won't turn on

I received a factory-refurbished d5100 from Adorama a month ago and recently purchased some Polaroid automatic extension tubes from Amazon. After checking all the bayonet connections with each other and the kit 18-55 lens, I put the whole stack on the camera. After about 5 seconds of using live-view to check close-focusing on the box the tubes came in, the LCD screen went black, and the camera appeared dead. Changing and recharging batteries and removing and reinserting the memory card haven't helped. There was no smoke or smell, and all the contacts seem clean and new-looking. What do I do? I imagine I'll have to send it back, but now I wonder if putting a 3rd party accessory on the camera has voided my warranty. I suppose I could leave that part out when I send it back, but I wonder if there's anything else I should try first. Absolutely nothing happens when I turn the camera "On". Thanks in advance...

Sounds to me like your camera is DOA. Send it back ASAP. As for 3rd party accessories, it's doubtful they could kill a camera like this.

Probably not from the tubes, but I would not mention it when you return the camera. Just say 'camera stopped working'. Who knows, that camera could have been originally returned for that same problem. But also do some research on the tubes to make sure no one has had any problems with them. If you are still within your Amazon return period and want to be extra cautious, return/exchange the tubes too.
