Images flashing black on LCD

you have the Highlight Alert feature on.

  1. Press the Menu button, then go to the Playback menu
  2. Once in the Playback menu, go to the Playback Display Options and press OK
  3. Go down to select the Highlights option, then press OK to place a check mark next to the word Highlights
  4. Now move back up to select Done, and press OK again to lock in your change

As soon as I saw the video I could tell that the white area was very overexposed. That is why it was flashing. Not really a bad feature to leave turned on. That gives you the option to reshoot and get the levels down now. Better than not getting the shot and not knowing it till you get home.

I agree Don,

I have now turned it back on, as you have stated its telling me its over exposed so i can then reshoot the subject.
I was a bit worried something was at fault.

I remember the first time I saw it I was freaked out too. I knew something was terribly wrong. I think though when it is active that you can click the down arrow on the multi select and toggle it off and on without having to go through the menu.

Yup. When viewing the shots on the lcd you can use up and down arrow to scroll through the views (histogram, highlights, overview and picture if I remember correctly).

It made me go back and check the menu options on my D5100 and because of that I changed the way I had mine set up. Trying to solve problems for others always helps me learn things. So Win/Win
