R24 in viewfinder

Hi

Have just noticed that when looking through viewfind where the number of approx photos left is on right, as I depress shutter an R24 appears?

What does that signify? Earlier on I was attempting to take some photos where this continued to flash but wouldnt get the photo to take - I thought it was due to aperture setting and distance to subject (I'm a bit of an amateur). Cant locate my manual or disc at moment. Out of curiosity though googled R24 and it brought up links as an error for faulty lense?

Cant think it is that as camera works generally and lense has not taken a knock. Its probably something completely different but am curious all the same...!

Thanks in advance.

If I'm not mistaken, the R24 is telling you that 24 images will fit in the buffer... Fire the shutter, and press it again, and see if it changes to 23... If you have a memory card in the camera... the value should decriment, the go back to the 24 as soon as the buffer image is written to the card...

I'm not sure because I don't have that model, but I suspect this is the amount of pictures in high continuous frames per second you can take before the buffer is full.

The fact that you couldn't take pictures is probably because you have your camera settings to FOCUS priority and the camera had acquired focus.

Hope this helps until you find your manual and read it.

Depending on your picture settings too, that R number will change. Mine never shows more than R17 I think, but will have to double check.

And as mentioned it is the number of pictures you can take that will fit in the buffer. The better/faster your SD card is though, the quicker the number will return to its high value :)

It also depends on your shooting settings. If you shoot raw + jpegs you get less. If you shoot jpeg fine large a little more and if you shoot jpeg medium basic you'll get even more.

It's all in the user's manual somewhere. :)
