Do they reset the shutter count for refurbished cameras? Or did I get lucky?

My refurbished D5100 came in, and I wanted to check the shutter count on it, Ive read to do that in case it was wildly used before or what ever, I didnt check it until after I played around with it for a day or 2, and it said its only at 200 something at that time? I just might of taken 200 something picture by the time I checked, so It might of been zero when I got it?

Is that normal, or maybe the site I used to check it was wrong ?

depends,, another post on here states that Nikon only sells store models as refurbished, so that would make sense, but I have a tough time believing that, since, how many store models are there, and wouldn't most stores just sell the floor model at a slight discount anyway, but maybe you got a quick return, unused camera, I doupt if they reset the counter, but you never know, can't be that hard for them to reset.

does installing a newer firnware reset the counter? i did read that somewhere but have no idea if that's true

In general, no. A firmware update does not normally re-set the count but Nikon hedges on this and states that firmware updates "can" affect the shutter count. I suspect this is more of a precautionary statement more than anything else.

Both the above links give the same answer, but I found ShutterCounter to be a lot faster and more informative

Just did an interesting little experiment.
The first 414 pictures I took when I got my camera, were all in Auto and some minor changes to the menu options, but other than that, no deletions or anything.
Used both sites listed above, and for the 400th picture, it says the shutter count is 429!!! (As a reference point, the first picture showed a shutter count of 1).

How can this be so?
