D500 AF-Mode button appears to not be not working...

Hi,

I've had my D500 for 24 hours now and despite reading the manual, online research and generally trying to figure this out myself, I can't seem to use the AF-Mode button along with the rear dial and front dial to change from AF-S to AF-C, or to select AF points. The focus is stuck on the single, centre point. I can move this point around with the joystick, however.

I have ensured all AF-area modes are selected under a9 and that 'No restrictions' is selected in a10. I have tried to use the AF-Mode button in different shooting modes. The focus lock is not on, I have tried switching this on and off to reset any possible locks. I have also reset all settings, just in case I inadvertently selected something wrong.

Is there something I'm missing? Any video I've seen makes it look simple enough to use this button to change focus mode, so I'm unsure why I'm having such difficulty.

Also, I'm using Nikkor AF-P 18-35 DX VR and Nikkor AF-P 70-300 DX VR.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

John

Did you buy it new or used? And you're pressing the inside of the AF-Mode button where the rubber is, aren't you, not the hard plastic outside of the button?

The top lcd should change to display focus settings when you press the button as Cindy described. You keep holding it and make the changes with the wheels. If the display does not change to show focus settings when you press the button, the button might be bad.
