Metering and focus points

In it's current setup on my D500, metering does not follow my focus point. Meaning, if I move the focus point, it seems to still meter from the center.

Can I have metering follow the focus point? If so, could you explain the process.

I should also say, I am shooting single point focus in continuous mode with matrix metering.

Hi Chris, Take a look at page 129 of the D500 manual as it explains the different exposure metering modes: in Spot mode, the camera does exactly what you are asking. It meters the exposure against a small spot around your focus point. In the other modes, the focus point does not matter, so you are right that in matrix metering, the camera ignores your focus point. Simply switch to Spot metering - bingo!
