Wow, to have killed a new camera so quickly, but nearly 300k isn't too bad i suppose. This isn't my maths but heres a quote from another forum that puts their longevity into some sort of perspective
"200,000 actuations @ 10 fps = 20,000 seconds = 333.334 minutes = 5.553 = hours"

Yeah, 5.5 hours:eek:

298,280 actuations calc's out to OVER eight-and-a-quarter hours (8.28 hours, to be exact) of continuous shooting at 10fps.

It also equates to just over 34 shots a day, every day, for one full year.

298.280 divided by 365 = 817.2 which sounds feasible for a busy pro sports photographer.

I'm at 118,157 -- and Nikon Service has had it for 5 months of the 13 I've owned it.

Sorry to hear that wev, what was the problem and their excuse for taking so long?

The first time was after I got knocked down by an insane trail cyclist. Did major damage to the body and Square Trade, despite the cost to them, insisted on repairing it. Unfortunately the parts were not in stock at the time, so it had to sit there and wait a month for them to arrive. The second time was to do further repairs after issues related to the first go around surfaced. Square Trade footed the bill again, so now they have paid more to repair it than it cost new.

The real irksome part is the nagging thoughts of 'is it really right?' when I am out shooting or is it just me.

That's easy. When you get the shot, it's your skill as a photographer, when you miss the shot it is always the camera's fault. :)
