    Re: Generic batteries

I have 3 Nikon batteries and 2 Wasabi batteries that I have had for several years and have used in my D7100 and D750. I can not tell the difference in the Nikon and the Wasabi batteries. I would recommend them over the Nikon batteries

I have Wasabi's too Don but they don't work in the D500 though they work well in Liz's D7200. These are the first generic batteries that I have come across that work in the D500.

@canuck257 Do they just drain faster in the D500?

That is odd. They work in both my D7100 and D750

From what I have read, even the genuine enel15's that came with your D7100 and D750 won't work in the D500, that's why there was the opportunity for new D500 owners to send in their older batteries and swap them for the newer style .
There were a couple of threads discussing this.
The 3rd party battery makers must have just cracked the code .

It's not uniform that all D7100/D750 batteries won't work with the D500, and "won't work" simply means they drain faster than they should. My D7100 had an older battery, but other camera bodies and batteries I've had/tried were fine and not affected by the recall.

Only certain batteries S/N's do the exchange. Bummer for me...

    Re: Generic batteries

So, I got a couple of Wasabi batteries that are newer and "guaranteed to work in the D500." Well, they work in the D500 with about HALF the battery life of a Nikon battery. I tried these in the D500 out of curiosity, but will be using them in my D7200 and D7100.

No bummer. The batteries that are not included in the exchange (Li-ion20) are the ones that work fine in the D500. If you have those, you're good to go!

    From Nikon:

    -----

EN-EL15 rechargeable Li-ion batteries with Li-ion01 printed on the back of the battery are eligible for replacement. (see image below, top)
EN-EL15 batteries with Li-ion20 printed on the back of the battery are the same post-modification batteries as those supplied with the D500, and do not require nor are they eligible for replacement. (see image below, bottom)
