Earlier on i was using a Canon DSLR and it has a clever feature, when u looked through the viewfinder and found a focus point in say landscape and you turned the camera around to portrait mode the focus point moved automatically, can the D500 do this, sorry dont know the technical term or name of this feature.

Yes. It is a feature that can be toggled on or off. The toggle is custom setting A7 and it is called store by orientation. There's more related settings and features to that, but download the manual yourself and get acquainted: Nikon | Download center | D500
