My D500 is being returned, i am having auto focus problems, i got it monday night, tuesday i fired a few test shots and everything seemed ok, 1st shot came back as 1 on the shuttercount website, so brand new.

Took it to work on wed, it frooze 3 times and an F0 appeared on the top screen, turned it off and on, nothing, turned it off and detached and re-attached the lens and i was back shooting (the 70-300mm worked ok on the D7000?).

Thursday the same thing happened only once, Friday i got the sigma back and never had the problem, good.

At the shoot yesterday it came back again 3 times and this time i saw the picture i just took jump in the view finder.

Today it frooze again and i saw F1 in the top screen along with a whirling sound as if it was spinning its wheels trying to focus, so i turned everything off.

I got on to Amazon and they have a new one on the way (Tuesday) i have the camera all boxed and ready to leave into a UPS store for free shipping back to them.

I also did a factory reset with no avail, short of doing a firmware upgrade i think i had no other option, hope i dont have them same issues with the replacement??? I did a google search and this was reported albeit only a few had experienced this issue.

Roll on Tuesday, D500 mark II.

That sux Roy. I only know about the SD card problems they had. I thought that was the reason the camera froze. I took mine out for the second day in a row.. Took about 200 shots yesterday and about a 100 shots today. So far so good. The camera that I have is a refurb, and it had 1400 clicks on it when I got it.

I hope you're next one will be fine.

from what i read on the D500 thread about the lock ups @Blacktop it was the SD cards causing it?, i only used the XQD card, 32gb Lexar, i never thought to remove it and only use the SD card to see if that made any difference.

What have you been doing with it so far?:) You need to send me your D810 for a while, so you can pay more attention to your d500. :encouragement:

Everything has needed the D810 recently! I need to get out to the lake and exercise the D500 with a long lens for awhile.

It was the Lexar UHC 2 cards that were causing the problems. I have a Lexar UHC1 card in mine. No XQD yet.

Yes, those are the problem cards.

I'm not saying that is the problem with yours, but when you get your new cam, stay away from those particular cards.

Pete i read Thom's piece and another he wrote, he did say not to delete the files in camera and he would explain, but i never saw how to delete them, how are you deleting your files?? i was reformating them in camera.

When I want to delete a particular file,(which is almost never), I just use the delete button. Push twice.
normally I just reformat in camera right before I go out shooting.

i unboxed the D500 and tried a few more test shots using different cards, 1st up was the XQD card on its own, same story, it started to jump as my pic was being written, i did notice Flicker appearing on the viewfinder??? then the whirrling sound and no focus, it was the same on all 3 cards, even the one i used on my D7000. So back in the box and i will mail it back tomorrow, meantime my new one is in route from San Fran and eta is 3pm tomorrow (Tuesday).

You will need to ship it to me before you open it and I will do a thorough test of it for you. This will only take about 6 to 8 months. A year tops.
