My first impressions after doodling around with if for a few hours at work today.

The cam arrived Wednesday, but no one was home to sign for it, so they delivered it to the UPS store Thursday. I got home late so I didn't go pick it up till this morning, so I took it to work with me.

I played with it for a few hours while waiting to get loaded at the Coke warehouse. I had no manual, which is strange, since every time I ever got anything refurbished from Adorama, it always came with a manual.

Things that I like so far.

ISO button on top, for easy access. (since there is no "easy ISO" setting like there is on the D750, this will have to do)
Viewfinder shutter. I love this...very smart

The unlock button on the release mode dial is now placed on the top of the dial instead on the bottom. Makes it easier to unlock and rotate.
I like the round viewfinder eyepiece. This is not falling off. On my D750 it keeps falling off.

I like the joystick.
I also like that the diopter adjustment control is a pull out to rotate and push in to lock system. Much easier to rotate.

I miss the AF area mode selector that was on my D300.
Banks?...What can I say.. I never used them much on my D300, and unless I'm missing something, I don't really see the point. If you can't save your settings and make them stick....
I will however study this more closely before throwing up my arms.

I did not take many initial shots, since I didn't have much time, so I'll wait and see till tomorrow. Max and I are going to give this thing a workout tomorrow with the 200-500 lens, and see what all the hype is all about.

Have fun with it, Pete.

Sorry to hear you didn't receive a manual. The only thing I can think of is perhaps someone else bought it refurbished through Adorama and returned it. There's no way to tell for sure. My D7100 was purchased through Nikon directly because how can anyone be sure how many times other people have owned the same refurbished camera through another vendor? I don't know if vendors have to return refurbished items to Nikon every time someone returns them. Might be cheaper than renting one...

You should check with Adorama. I suspect it should have come with a manual.

Two fo my friends bought the D500 and it doesn't come with a manual. The manual is now on line.

I've been very impressed by this cameras as it is probably the fastest focusing camera on the market for now. And the files are really nice and crisp.

Enjoy your's.

My refurbished didn't come with a manual either. Don't know if it's a new Nikon thing or what, or maybe an Adorama thing, but the white box was sealed and appeared to come sealed from Nikon.

I ended up just downloading the electronic version of the manual.

This camera is amazing.
You input what species of bird you want to shoot, where you want to shoot it and at what day and time, and the bird will show up.

I'm going to try shooting images of money. I've input the denomination, where to show up, and what day of the upcoming week to show up. If it works .... I might not show up for work again. ;)

@Blacktop......to help you naming it.....I would choose a wildlife lover like yourself and a song titled,"White Rabbit" will lead you to the best name you can give her, and that name of course, is Grace Slick. You can't get anyone with more talent than her. Keyboards, songwriter, lead vocalist, etc. I stand by that name and might even name mine Grace Slick if you don't.
