Miss focus due to me

I use back button focus and on the D500 and it just doesn't seem to make a mistake in focusing. However occasionally I have missed a few images on getting them tack sharp. Well i figured out the problem, in my excitement to press the AF ON button on the rear of the camera I mistakenly put my thumb on the joy stick instead. This is a button that I am not use to being there so I need to pay a little more attention when I am shooting. Thought I would post this just in case anyone else might be having the same problem and not realize what was going on. There is nothing wrong with the camera, I just need to get accustom to the button being there.

Then I would program the joystick to function as AF ON as well.
That could solve your problem.
I have assigned the AF ON button to 21 AF and the joystick to group focus. Works well for me.

Daniel, I changed the joystick center button to do the same thing as the AF ON button, that should take care of me accidentally not getting focus. Thanks, Jeff

Jeff,
good idea, I would think that this will take care of your issue.

Update!!! After programing my joy stick to focus the same as the BBF button, I went to a horse show and took pictures. I took around 400 and didn't miss a one. I cannot think of the proper words to express how impressed I am with this D500. OUTSTANDING comes to mind.

I read somewhere, can't remember (I read hundreds of reviews) that you can program the FN button to switch between banks. This would be a great alternative for the U1 and U2 dial that I will miss on this body.

So basically I could program 2 different setups into 2 banks and easily switch between them without having to go into the menu.

I'm glad you got some helpful information from my Nikon D7000 tips thread. I might just start one on the D500 and see how it goes. Thanks for mentioning it. I looked and the site I had it posted on and it seems to not be working. I do have a PDF copy of all the tips and need to find somewhere to post it so it can be seen. Last time I had checked before the site went down it had been viewed over 185,000 times.
