New battery needed for d50

I've just been given a Nikon D50 from my dad. Unfortunately it looks like the battery is dead & wont come back to life.

Can anyone recommend a suitable/ reputable battery for me please? :)

Re: New battery needed

Well a Nikon-branded EN-EL3 battery for the D50 can be had on B&H for about $40; they also sell some non-Nikon branded batteries that would work with your camera. Here you can get two Wasabi batteries and a charger and save a few bucks. I use Wasabi batteries myself and while I won't suggest any other knock-off battery, the Wasabi batteries are excellent in my experience.

I'll echo the sentiments about using a genuine Nikon battery and suggest you only consider buying your battery at a camera store or a highly recommended online camera store such as B&H or Adorama. I use a Uniden cordless phone, and there are reports of MANY counterfeit batteries out there. You won't want to get stuck with a counterfeit battery that doesn't hold up.

Far out maybe, but it is not impossible that the problem is that the camera simply does not work now. Unless you are pretty sure of the camera, I think I would buy the battery at a local camera store, to see it work once in the camera, before purchase. Price is probably the same now, since Nikon started enforcing list prices.

I have 2 non Nikon batteries that I use in the D300 and haven't had problems with them...

Had a D50 in 2005 when the recall of Nikons battery happened...they replaced mine with a higher storrage one...I used a non Nikon battery in it and it still shoots a couple of hundred shots on a charge,,
