Help!

I was FINALLY able to get my first dslr a couple months ago and I think it already bit the dust. I've been into photography for years, took darkroom and digital classes in school so I'm fairly savvy in the photo world but not so much when it comes to troubleshooting and repairing. I took my D50 out for a hike a couple of weeks ago and towards the end, I ate it on a loose patch of gravel WITH my camera in hand. At first glance, it seemed like the only damage was a couple scuffs and scrapes on the display.... but both times I've used it since then, it will NOT auto focus and occasionally the shutter will stick for a few seconds (usually in low/dark light). I'm still getting all the readings on the displays but it absolutely will not auto focus. Takes pictures fine manually but sometimes I just need AF, like when taking action shots, and I'm worried sick about my poor camera. I've cleaned the connections and tried other lenses but the problem persists.
