On my focusing screen.....it's a small hairline crack. Not the end of the world but I wonder how much of a pain it will be to change. I remember my old F's there was a button to release the Photomic T finder and then another release for the focusing screen. You just up ended the camera and dumped the screen out onto a soft towel etc. cleaned it or replaced it, done deal. Anybody ever changed one on a D40?

Remember... there is nothing in the universe that doesn't have a YouTube video showing it... ;)

LOL....For Pete's sake. Usually that's the first place I go to learn how to do something. I thought this would be way too esoteric a subject to find there this time. I wonder how hard it will be to find the same one (focusing screen) although I'm not opposed to a split reticule focus but it's those 3 meter spot boxes I wonder about. Thank's for putting that up Fred, I appreciate it.

Well, you hit the nail right on the head again Fred, That is the one I ordered. With that and the video link you posted I should be able to do the transplant.

Well, I'm glad this didn't turn into a big deal........and I appreciate your help. The camera can still be used and the 40mm is on the way and I also found another lens on ebay when I was looking for something else that was just too good a deal to pass up. It's a Tamron 70~300 f4-5.6 Di LD so I have two lenses and the focusing screen coming. Exciting stuff.[h=1][/h]
