Hi I am very new to all this but unless I am mistaken or I have the settings wrong are not the
photos much better on the D40X than the D70 as the colour on my D40X is stunning but like I say I am new to this best wishes Brian.

Do a Bing or Google search for D40x review and then pick Ken Rockwell's site and see what he say about all the Nikons in this series.

What do you mean by "better" exactly? Are you shooting in JPG or RAW? If you're shooting JPG are you *SURE* the in-camera settings for both cameras are exactly the same? Also, are you shooting both camera's with the same lens(es), etc.?

This is the comparison between the D40X and the D70.
I guess I'm confused... Are you comparing specifications or are you comparing photos?

Because yes, technically speaking the D40x will produce better image quality compared to the D70. The D40x has better color depth and dynamic range if nothing else.

Sorry but I am only speaking as a novice as I have both the D40X and the D70 and had no idea of the specs on either camera I could only say that the D40X photo quality was far superior than the D70 but after seeing the specs it probably explains why and i
only bought the D70 because of the ease of having two control wheels but I do like the D70 but tomorrow the D40X is going to have a chance with the new zoom lens, best wishes Brian
