Just to keep this section going...still love my D40. I have had it for a long time...been to Alaska with it, taken thousands and thousands of pictures with no issues. I am still amazed how good the pictures look from this little camera.

When you're D40 first came out it was new technology. More advanced than what used to be. You don't need all the fancy options of todays cameras. Those cameras from years gone by are just as capable of creating good photos as the gear we have today. It's good to hear people such as you're self still making good use of them.

I love my D40x.... Actually two of them. These NIKONs do everything I need and I'm not one that needs a new camera any time a new one comes out. These are a beautiful, functional camera that still delivers the pictures I want. I just picked up a Tamron 18-200 walk around lens which takes some sharp pictures.

I bought a "Still in the box" D40 last week and I love it. A few years ago I had a F80 film camera and many of the controls are similar :)

Hi I bought this beautiful Nikon D40X a few weeks ago and I have to admit I know nothing about cameras and I too was amazed how good the photos were but also realised how awesome they would be if I knew what I was doing and it looks like I have arrived at the right place to learn and its good to see that you still like your D40,Brian.
ps I am also waiting patently for a Nikon D70 to arrive hopefully within the next few hours.

Just this evening, I went back through the "keepers" from my D40 and I am still impressed by the output of that camera.

When it came time to sell it, I did not realize what a "gem" it really was or I would likely still have it to this day.

I'm glad to see there are still other Nikonites that appreciate the D40!

I love the D40x. It was my first dslr and I bought it because I had a class at university of photography and it was one of my favorite classes and I was severally limited in what I could do with a non dslr. So I got a whole lot of money and bought a D40x and made some amazing photos with it. Actually everything I ever learned about photography I learned with that camera and made some better photos on complete manual than a lot of my school mates with far better equipment.
I'm actually selling it in order to buy a new lens and because I think somebody could genuinely benefit with playing around with a cheap camera and learn something.
The only reason I changed it is because I need video too now.
