How to save pictures on D40

You can take and save photos from the D40 in JPG, or RAW, or RAW+JPG.
But be careful; if you save shots only in RAW Nikon uses a special designation for RAW files called NEF, and you have to have the right PC software to both view and post-process NEF files. Also you cannot usually send NEF or RAW files to friends as easily as you can JPGs....

The main advantage in using RAW (NEF) files is that they're more uncompressed and you can do more post processing and technical modding of them with special PC software such as Photoshop or Elements.

JPGs are, by their nature, compressed files...
