One of my D4's is in hospital....

So shooting a wedding on Saturday just gone, 1 D4 gets the 24-70mm f2.8, my other one gets the 70-200mm f2.8 VRII as per usual. Shoot the wedding fine, shoot the location shoot fine. Get to the reception. I usually swap the 70-200 over for my 85mm f1.4. I like having those extra stops, means I can snipe shots without using the flash... anyways.... I go to take off the 70-200mm and........ nothing. Won't come off. Nada, Zilch.

My assistant comes over and tries - nope - won't budge.

Luckily the camera and lens still function perfectly, but it is still like having 1 hand behind your back just KNOWING you can't change it if you want to.

Googled the issue and it seems that it is more common with the bigger massive lens'. So took it to the authorised repairers yesterday afternoon. They are gonna have a crack at it, otherwise off to Nikon it goes....

I've lost one of my babies!!!

Dang ... that's not cool. Hope it's a quick/easy fix and not something that needs to go to Nikon.

Yeah me too - the stuff I found on google suggested it was a nikon issue and fix. Pricing somewhere between the $500 to $600....

I'll report back once I find out from the local authorised dealer what the go is...

shouldnt cost 500-600 bucks. was not mounted properly. with some play it will come off. happened to me before with F5's. it will come off but needs to be persuaded with slight angling. no need to be brutal though. it will come off.

I'm guessing not mounted correctly (easily done!) so hope it's an easy and less painful fix

So the verdict isn't great. The pin that holds the lens on and allows it to come off when you depress the button broke. Apparently common on D4's.... usually with the bugger lens' though....

They managed to get the lens off after dismantling the front of the camera. They have ordered a new pin from Nikon. They are hoping to get it in by the end of this week. Camera back to me by early next week.

    Sigh....
