Just got back and loved this combo (although our weather wasn't so good) - here are some shots.

Here is one a bit before sunrise at ISO 9000, pretty impressive low light capabilities. I remember when the fastest film you could get was 3200 b&w, and it was super grainy...

I love the squirrel and the eagle, nice shots and wow it's sharp!

Yeah Bill, I was very happy with the resolution of the lens - It is only a hair behind the 300 f4 at that focal length, and the zoom range is incredibly useful. The AF is fast, but a little noisey, which I was a little disappointed with. I was afraid it was just my copy, but I ask around and it seems that it's just how this lens is.

All great shots Billy. Sharp and perfectly timed. The wings just seem to be at the exact right place on each bird shot. Were you using continuous high rate, or did you just capture it right?

For the noisy focus, you know you can still manually focus these lenses do you? ;)

I have it set to 8 fps, but usually just do a short burst of 4-5 shots. I used a 3 second burst resulting in 24 images to get the one of the chipmunk and the flying weed. Oh and I have bad elbows, so the doctor told me to stay away from anything Manual, like labor and focus. :) Seriously though I am really out of practice at it, If I had the D4 on continous high and tried to manual focus, it would just be 10 blurry images per second.

Bald eagles are beautiful and you captured it very well, thank you.

Few years back we visited my brother in-law in Kalispell and we saw some eagles like that. Seems it was right around Glacier National Park.

There was a time before FWP messed things up that the Salmon would run up Mcdonald creek into Glacier Park - you could stand on the bridge and there would be at least a hundred bald eagles in the area to feed on the fish. Sadly that doesn't happen anymore.
