New (to me) D3500 got a workout on Saturday

In the Spring, the City of Mckinney, TX holds what it calls its "Arts in Bloom" event. It's staged in the historic downtown area where the streets are closed to vehicle traffic for the event. Local and regional artisans and small businesses of every stripe display their wares for viewing and sale. There isn't any cost to visit the event. It's basically a street fair and there's food and drink available. Also, there are activities like face painting and art projects for kids, too.

The event didn't happen in 2020 for obvious reasons. This year it looked to me like the pent up desire to be out about resulted in a larger number of folks showing up than what I remember from 2019.

Anyway, I took my recently acquired refurbished D3500 and AF-P DX 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR kit lens and walked around, shooting as I went. Young and old alike were having a good time.

Bet you had a nice time giving it a workout! ;) So how did the combo work for you? And how does it differ from your D7500?

What a testimony to my D3500! But I wonder you use AF or MF and set in which mode (P, A, S, or M) to shoot all these photos?

Not trying to start any fights, but I am surprised there are no/very little masks being worn..

Great pics - looks like a fun day!

What a great series of shots, including from a technical standpoint!

Up until recently I had a D3300 as my sole camera, with that lens in continuous use. I was always impressed by how well it worked. Nikon's entry level bodies may not have all the functions and features of its higher end models, but if you're just a casual shooter or a hobbyist on a budget (me), you certainly can't complain about the quality of the pictures they produce, even with a kit lens.

Looks like fun. McKinney did a nice job with that area. The last time I was out there was for a food festival many years ago.

It's much more basic than my D7500...fewer features and Fn buttons, 11 vs 59 focus points (and only one is a cross), a fixed, non-touch screen, etc, etc. That said, it's a very capable camera and I was pleasantly surprised at how the 18-55mm lens performed.

No worries. :D

Danno nailed it. The state has been basically open since mid-March. Mask or no mask - people decide for themselves.

Texas Governor lifted the Mask mandate back in March. No arguing round here

Nice. We aren't required to wear masks here in Perth either, but we only had a total number of 906 cases.... and most of those were from overseas travel.... glad to hear the numbers must be dropping there. Was crazy for a while.
