Timer & shot number in "M" mode - D3500

Hi,

Another newbie's question: Can you set and use "Timer" and "Shot number" in "M" and "Auto" mode (D3500)?

I tried timer = 5", shot number = 3, and shutter speed = 3" (in "M" mode), in "M" mode I got 5" delay and only one 3" shot, no second, third shots. In "auto" mode, I didn't get 5" delay and only got one shot, no 2nd and 3rd shots either. It seemed the timer does not work in "auto" mode and "shot number" won't work in either mode.

So what's the catch here? Someone enlighten me, please.

Edit: Ok, in "auto" mode, I have to check into "timer" mode first to get all 3 shots; but in "M" mode, even set in "timer" mode, it won't take more than 1 shot. Is this true?

Oh well, got it done! In order to use timer and shot number, it is required to check into "timer" mode every time you want to us it. I believe it is due to the "time out" issue of D3500. :(

I don't do series of timed shots myself, but I'm not sure if the body contains an intervalometer. You might need to add a shutter release that has an intervalometer like the one below. But before you get one, wait and see if other members have suggestions for you. Like I said, I don't do timed shots myself. Maybe there is a different way to do it without having to get an intervalometer.

The D3500 does not have an intervalometer, and the port needed to use the Vello was removed from that camera.

You might want to look at CloudyNights. I used to belong to that message board. They have a beginner astrophotography section, which might help you out. They know astrophotography, cameras, apps, processing, etc.

Good luck, have fun. That is about the limits of my knowledge on the subject.
