It turns out that when I want to take a picture with my nikon d3400, when I press the obstacle does not focus and in the viewer appears a message that says R04.

Someone has an idea of why this happens and how I can fix it.

The R04 is not an error message,it is supposed to be there. It tells you that there's space remaining for 4 more pictures in the buffer. If you take rapid pictures the number will go down to 00 and then you have to wait a short time while the buffer clears the images onto the memory card.

Is it a new camera? Have you ever been able to take a picture? What lens are you using, can you write the exact type of the lens please. There can be several reasons why autofocus is not operable, but some background info would be good before we begin making guesses and suggestions. For example some of the 18-55mm kit lenses have a lock button on the lens barrel and you cannot take pictures if the lens is in the collapsed (locked) position.
