Is this a good deal?

Personally I would not buy these types of sets. There is nothing "pro" about any of the items. You can buy each of those things on Ebay individually for a low cost. Especially the lenses, I believe those are just attachments that go on a regular lens, the quality is not that good.

I would suggest that you buy good quality items to build your photography inventory. One thing I have learned in life is it is best to spend a little more on something that will last a long time. Also buying used items is a good option also.

I would avoid this deal, a lot of this sort of stuff is poor quality.
Better to buy a camera body separately, or with one kit lens, and slowly build your kit when you know what you need.
A second hand macro lens will be much better than all those attachments, and cost you less in the long run as you only have to buy once.

There are many companies that offer better items than Vivitar. The flash listed is for Canon so that won't be compatible. The white lens shown in the photo looks like a Canon lens, so my guess is if there are any lenses included, they will be a Canon mount. You'd be better off finding some of these items singly, but make sure they are made by other manufacturers.

What types of item are you hoping to find? Maybe we can link some suggestions for you. If you are searching for filters (to attach to the front of your lenses), we'd need to know the filter size of each lens.

Agree with others. And a 50" tripod is way too short. You want something that will put the camera at eye level without using a center column.

Run, do not walk away from this deal. Vivitar made great products 50 years ago. And why would you want a Canon Flash for your Nikon.

Run away, run away..........
I only know about those little Vivitar filter sets. They are terrible. Huge color shift, plastic threads, etc. I do use the macro set. I have gotten some decent shots with those, but the other set is terrible.

Those kits look so inviting, everything you think you need without having to research and think.

Let us know what you need, somebody will point the way.

The original Vivitar company ceased to exist in 2008. The trademark and related intellectual property were sold to another company, called Sakar. Aside from owning the brand name, the new Vivitar really has little to do with the original Vivitar.

That said, Sakar appears to make at least some products that are decent, if not spectacular.

There's usually a reason as to why these items are bundled together like this.

Spoiler Alert: It's never a good reason. :p

Doesn't it seem rather odd that this kit includes a flash that is specified as being Canon-compatible, but batteries that are clearly Nikon-compatible?

Forget about this deal. Why not start another discussion on what would be a good kit to start with. If you have an idea of what you would like to photograph and how much you would like to budget, you will get plenty of help here.

Already had. I decided to skip a bundle in general. Despite some very good deals on actual lenses (Nikkor for example), I think it'll be easier for me to buy one at a time, at least until Christmas is over.

But, that being said, I'm open to suggestions!

What subjects interest you the most? Subjects such as birds require a longer focal length while landscapes tend to be shorter. Faster lenses allow in more light. It doesn't mean you'd have to go with the most expensive lenses out there, but lenses tend to be an investment. Go with what you can afford but that also perform well.
