Problems with auto focus

I've had my D3400 for about 6 months. Just recently, the auto focus doesn't seem to engage. I push the shutter button half-way down, and nothing happens. This happens on many settings. I wait a few seconds and try again until it works and will take a photo. Any ideas?

Welcome to Nikonites!

What are you trying to take a picture of? What is the lighting like? Better yet post a sample. Have you tried re-seating the lens? Is the vibration reduction off or on? The more detail you provide the easier it will be for other to help.

Is there an AF/MF switch on the lens(es) you're using?

Does it have an AF indicator inside the viewfinder? If so, be sure it is lit up which means the subject is in focus. See if it will or won't fire when the indicator light is lit.
