Image sizes confusion

Hi all, I hope i can ask the proper question and have a decent answer and better understanding of this issue i am having, and quite frankly not sure if its a problem.
Shooting with d3400 with kit lens 18-55mm and 70-300mm Raw. i just seen that my image sizes with my kit lenses are 6000 x 4000. Now, i bought the 35mm lens and i seen a significant difference in sizes.

kit lenses = 6000 x 4000 and average image size is around 10 mb.
35mm lens = 1500 x1000 and average image size of less than 1mb.

i only shoot RAW so not much adjustments in that part for the d3400. Also i use lightroom and always export with highest quality of a 100.

So i guess my question is why different dimensions and significant difference in size of mb between the kit lenses and the 35mm prime?
i tried to do a lot of reading on it but i seem to get even more confused, if anybody can understand my issue and help me out would be very nice. thanks guys

First, welcome to the forum

It sounds like you have either accidently shot JPEG or depending on how you are importing them into your computer you are accidentally changing the size.
There is no way that changing the lens can change the size of the file/photo. Go back and shoot a few photos with the kit lens and then change the lens to the 35mm one and shoot without downloading the files in between . Now go load them into your computer and check it again.

I can tell you for a fact the the lens can not change the size of the photo.

I appreciated Don, spend so much time reading about it which did not give me a chance to think to try experimenting it:).
Any idea why the MB are significantly different? with the 35mm less than 1mb per image, and the kit lens is around 10mb per image

Howdy and welcome to Nikonites!!!

As Don mentioned, the only thing that makes sense is that the camera accidentally got switched to shooting jpg, or the image size was reduced in camera.

Lenses dont affect image size, its the sensor that does that. Lenses will have an effect if using a DX lens on an FX frame say, or some weird set up but thats the only thing that springs to mind atm. Gotta be an in camera setting or some pp export thingy

Raw files will end in .NEF and they will be about 20mb. If you are seeing smaller files then you are looking at jpg files. So double check that you are shooting RAW, .NEF, files of around 20mb. When you are sure that you are still putting out the big NEF files, then check your LR export settings more closely to see why the jpg are small.
