My D3300 has just developed a few faults.
Yesterday i took some pictures and moved them to my PC by taking the SD card out and plugging it in to my PC, all worked fine.
Today when i tried using it, the camera says playback not currently available. If i click LV it says that it cannot start live view at current settings. (nothing is connected, this was while taking pics) I took a few pics today and i couldnt see them. I put the card back in the PC and only 2 pics were there. I removed the card and checked on another PC and now the card cant be read.

I dont have the wireless dongle connected either
Battery is full and i have removed if for a while

I tried to format the card in the camera but getting the cannot do anything in the current state message. This camera is just over 13 months old and is only the 4th time its been used. I checked online for a solution and there seem to be many people with this fault but no answers provided?

Thanks very much in

Is the card locked? Remove it from the camera and look on the side of the card. There is a switch that toggles up and down. Make sure it isn't in the lock position.

Try reformatting the card on the PC. If its a no go, the card is at fault and should be replaced. Do you have another card to try? I doubt anything is wrong with your camera.

The card worked yesterday in the PC. Its not locked.

Even the camera just now without the card in it wont allow me to switch to live view

If you have another card, see if you have the same issue with the camera with it.

I can't remember specifically, but it might be possibe that your message from the camera is what you get when attempting to view files from an empty card. When you moved the files to the computer, you may have removed them from the card. There appear to be some other issues here and hopefully you have a simple fix to them.

Please let us know what you discover.

When i used the camera today and it wouldnt allow me to view playback or switch to LV mode it still took a few pics. Well i could see a few at 1st on the PC. I also took a few pics using the guide mode to try and take a pic of a waterfall and trying to get the water effect. When the card initially worked in the pc those pics were just white boxes with no preview but i could see that the size of them were like an average pic size. Sorry if my explanation is poor but i am pretty new to this ( as you can probably tell)

I tried another card and took a picture, and it works fine.

Camera still wont allow me to view playback, LV mode and i even went to format card while in the camera and its giving me the cannot start live view at current settings or under current conditions ??

I'm grasping at straws... Have you removed the battery and let the camera sit idle for a few minutes?

Is there a good camera store nearby that you could visit for them to look into it?

What are your camera's current settings and conditions?

Unfortunately it doesn't look like there is a store nearby. There used to be a jessops but that's closed down

For example, which mode you set to shoot: P, S, A, M, Guide, Portrait, ... and other settings: like focus, iso, ... (sometime you change shooting mode without changing some related settings, e.g., auto iso, focus method, etc., camera can't operate properly... )

Conditions: battery, card installed properly?

BTW, you said you tried a new card, took a shot, and it worked fine, but ... what you mean it worked fine?

Try putting the wireless dongle back in and see if you get live view through that. Then end the connection through the app rather than just pulling the dongle. It could be your camera still thinks there is an external live view connected. Also, do you have another battery to test? Have you updated to the latest firmware?

I don't have the wireless dongle. But what you are saying does sound like what the problem is.
I tried connecting the USB to both mine and my sons computer and nothing happens. When I disconnect the USB the camera comes back on.

Not sure if I reset the camera to see if that helps

If we have ruled out the memory card, the battery and dongle issues, the reset is the next step. Be sure to look into doing a full reset. Hope this works, I believe the next step is a trip to Nikon.

I think a reset may be in order as well.

Just a reminder there are two Reset options on the D3300: one is found in the SHOOTING menu, the other in the SETUP menu and they do different things.

I suggest resetting in both menus.

I know you stated that you used the card the day before and it worked, so "it is not locked." I would physically check it if you haven't. My cards get locked at times just putting them back in the slot. I must rub the lock tab as I insert them. It has happened more than one time. Ha!

I reset both the shooting and the setup menu... nothing. Everything is pretty much greyed out now. Can't even change the image quality back to raw or fine 🙁.

Thats very strange. When is the last time youve cleaned all the contacts? I know you havent used the camera much, but corrosion on any contact can lead to erratic behavior. I would take a clean microfiber and hit all the shiny parts of the battery, memory card and lens contacts being very careful not to put too much pressure on any of them. Keep an eye out for any bent anythings. Sorry for your situation. It would be worth it to contact Nikon. They might say they need to see the camera first, but maybe they've got ideas that havent been discussed here. Keep us updated with what you find out.

I appreciate your help mate. I have searched Google all night. A few people seem to have posted similar problems but there never seems to be an answer except one half answer. Someone with the same problem Sent their camera to nikon and was repaired... no explanation really given, but they said they got it fixed. I have emailed nikon so hopefully i get a reply and maybe an idea of what's wrong
