Help me Choose a Lens

I am fairly new to this digital scene. I am going to be going on vacation and taking pictures both inside of old churches and buildings and also inside of cruise ship. What would be the best all around lenses to use in these low light situations using the D3200?

Thanks

I agree with Alan, the 35 1.8g is nice and great quality for the cost. If you want to spend more, the 28 1.8g or Tokina 11-16 would also be great indoors.

dont mess about get an 18-200 zoom ...sigma VR (forget the tripod) and use the auto ISO on 400 to 6400 and you will be fine...sharpness =9 Noise max reduction ...if you want another lens get a 10-20 mm sigma... Have done cruise ships and they are well lit and churches A F8 (to get sufficient depth of field which P will not give you ) auto iso, no problem without flash..if you can see to read a hymn book you can take a great photo....

I am new to this whole DSLR thing. I have the kit lens and a 55 to 200 lens as well. They are cool but I just bought a 1.8 35mm and a 55mm 1.8 lens for my new 3200.

I gotta think I got the hardware covered for a relative newbie. Using PSCS6E too. This is fun!!!

now I would love someone to explain this to me ....you have 4 lenses to carry about ..you have to change them in the rain/dust..you have the pime focal lengths in the kit lenses range ....so whats that all about?? How is it better than a 18-200 zoom ? the only thing you can do with your 35mm and 50mm is get more extreeme bokeh. You must have big pockets both to carry them and to pay for them ....

I prefer primes for the greater image quality.

and how many huge prints do you do to see the difference....

rockwell keeps banging on about 6 MP being enough for a 1mx1.5m print so is 24 MP with a zoom better or worse..

But in truth its horses for courses ..I could not keep changing lenses...no time and no where to carry them ..the figure for wedding photographers is about 200 pictures per hour (5 hrs at a wedding 1000-1200 pictures) and you spend 2 hrs of that sitting on your ass......thats the joy of photography everyone has there own valid view.

I don't plan on carrying all 4 lenses when going out to shoot. I usually take only one and concentrate on what that particular lens does best. I like the low arpeture of these fixed focal lenses so I need less light and get a tight depth of field.

I may be over the top but these two lenses were only about $200 a piece.

You think I'm crazy? You may be right, time will tell.

I print a lot of large prints and I see higher IQ out of my primes. It all depends what you are doing, surely shooting weddings a good zoom is a must. I shoot mostly landscapes and my shooting is very deliberate and usually planned in advance. In my case, primes do what I want to achieve better than zooms.

I need three cameras...one for each of the primes I would like to have... :)

As to the OP...I just went on a cruise took two cameras and two primes...used the 28mm wide angle probably 80% of the time. You can grab everything with a wide angle and they are easier to focus.

Some other advice keep your camera close at all times and whatever you do don't forget to grab your bag after it has been through the scanner when you return to the ship!

Don't let the vacation itself overwhelm you...that is what happened to me so I didn't really shoot a whole lot and what I did shoot was even more mediocre than the mediocrity that I usually produce! lol

Where did you get the lenses for $200 each?
