lens comparison for d3200

I've been planning on buying a Tamron 90mm 1:1 macro for my reef tank shots. I've been looking for used to get a better price but I came across a Tamron adaptall 90mm 1:2 with a 1:1 extension tube.

How would this compare quality picture wise? The price is a good bit cheaper this route.

Not sure if I can link to ebay on here so please remove if its a no no. Also, its says for AI, does that mean it wouldn't have AF or metering? If not, how much of an annoyance is that?

"nikon lens compatibility" search on google gives nice matrix explanations

I've fumbled around with some AI's on modern cameras and sold most of them.

I don't mind the manual focus but insist on at least some of the metering modes to work (which depends on the grade of the camera).
That lens you pointed to will be very unhappy on a D3200.

Here is the Nikon Lens compatibility chart. https://www.nikonusa.com/Images/Lea...You/Media/NIKKOR-lens-compatibility-chart.pdf

Allen's Camera is a legit store. I've bought several pieces of preowned Nikon gear there. I don't know what your budget is or anything about this particular model lens. It's a 105mm f/2.8 AF lens. You would have to focus manually, but according to the compatibility chart, it should meter.

Their link isn't pasting properly so click this embedded link if you want to look at it. It's $249.99. They would know how this lens performs on your particular body.

Thanks for the link. Right after I posted my last post I put an offer on a Tamron f2.8 1:1 90mm AF lens and got it for $180. Says excellent condition, no scratches, hazing or fungus. I know alot of guys use this lens on the d3200 for reef tank macro shots and produce some real nice pics so with any luck.

Good luck with it! Please let us know how it works out. Since you particularly want the lens for macro work, you would be better off focusing manually anyway. So at least this macro lens should meter without any trouble. This one definitely sounds like a better option over your first. :)
