Where does one normally post their photos as I wanted to include one on this forum but it points to a URL ?

I think there is a minimum number of posts required...maybe 5 or so. One of the mods should be along shortly to verify for you. Welcome!

The best way to add a photo is to post it directly to this site. If done correctly the EXIF data will show up with the photo.

Guidelines to adding a photo to your post.

1. Resize photo to 1000px on the long side.
2. Resolution set to 72ppi (Pixels Per Inch)

These guidelines will be good for viewing on a computer but will not be good for printing. This will help safeguard your copyright.

Cracked Lens.jpgWhy I wanted to import a photo was I was looking for advice as to where I could get a part to replace my cracked Lens. I fell holding the camera and apparently I could not see any damage but some of my photos had ghosted marks on them. Originally I thought it was the body but after replacing it, I still had the marks. so after some further investigation there seemed to be some marks on the lens so I took it apart and found this. The Lens BTW is a AF-s Nikkor 18-55mm 1.35-8.6

You can buy a very clean used 18-55mm f/3:5~5.6 lens for something like 40-50 dollars. It is not worth trying to repair that lens and not worth it to send it to Nikon.

My local gear shop (in Finland) has 9 (nine) used Nikon AF-S 18-55 lenses for sale from 29 euros and up and two AF-P 18-55 lenses at 95 euros. You should be able to find a cheap replacement in no time.

You would have to pay for shipping the lens to Nikon as well as pay for the repair--unless you happened to buy some type of drop/spill warranty for the lens. Did you?

Where are you located? In the US or somewhere else? Here in the US, keh.com is a decent place to buy preowned gear.

Or you can look on ebay's sold listings. That will show you how much people paid for this lens whether new or used. Hopefully this link will allow you to see those listings. Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

Thank you for all your suggestions. I have e-mailed Nikon but suspect they will be expensive so I will look for a spare used lens as suggested

If you decide to get another lens, you might want something longer. Since I don't have DX lenses, there aren't any I can suggest. But I've heard good things about a couple of Nikon lenses in the 18-xxx range. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable can offer some insight.
