Getting a live view from the camera to the computer

I want to be able to see on my computer screen what I see on the little screen on the back of the camera. (my eyes aren't great, a big screen helps a lot).
I've got a HDMI cable and the connection from the camera to the computer is fine.
What software is needed to get a live view (The camera came with ViwNX 2 but that doesn' seem to have a live view option)

Also how do I tell the camera to send the image to the computer. I'm guessing its something on the menu but can't work out what.

Any advice would be really appreciated.

Thanks

The quickest and easiest way is to plug the HDMI cable directly into your TV if it has an HDMI connector.

If you want to use your computer monitor then you have a lot of choices.

Most photography apps on computers use the USB cable to provide live view and control for the camera so it depends on what you are using.

It would be good if you introduce yourself here

so others can help.

Unfortunately the D3xxx series do not support live view over USB cable. The camera software does not support it. I know, as I have tried both Camera Control Pro and Digicam Control. When I did not get live view, I searched the net and got the information regarding live view support on various Nikon Cameras. The only way I can think of is to get a WiFi adapter and use Nikon Software to connect the camera to Android or IOS device.

This is one of the reasons that will prompt me to upgrade to FX (I see no utility in upgrading 5xxxx and 7xxx series), so that I get the following features I miss with my D3300 :
. Live View in tethered mode.
. Metering with AIS lenses.
. AF with AF and AFD lenses.
. Better low light performance.
. Easier Wide angle as 24mm lense will be wider than 18mm on DX.

For data transfer, use the USB cable. Once connection is established the computer will see the camera as an external disk. Then use the standard OS commands to transfer the data.

I tried the Digicam control program and that has worked fine.
I used the USB to camera cable, I think it is called the UC - E6. Its the one that came woth the camera, its really short so I think I may need a longer one.
Thanks again for your help

Update - 2014-10-08

Dowloaded the latest version of DigiCamControl V1.2.0 and installed in the Win-7 partition.

Connected the D3300 to PC, started the program, and viola the Live View started working in this version. The best part of the program is
. Live View - you can now frame by controlling the zoom, AF or fine focus
. Take time lapse and do focus stacking, while viewing the shots in Live View window. I have three screens so I have the program in one, Live View in second and explorer in third.
