it is going to produce noise anywhere above ISO 800 if exposure is not good, particularly underexposed images. My main concern would be the mirror and shutter issues I have seen cropping up, several of them here by D3200 owners. It may or may not be an issue but I would do my research.

My flatmate has a D3200 and she loves it - no complaints whatsoever although she is a bit jealous of the flip screen my D5100 has.

My advice would be to spend the extra few bucks for the D3300 over the 3200. You'll get better image quality since the 3300 had the OLPF removed and the bigger, faster, more powerful Expeed 4 processor (vs. the Expeed 3 of the 3200). The 3300 also shoots faster, has a higher maximum ISO and significantly better battery life per charge. That's an awful of extra horsepower for the price difference which, last time I checked, was about $100.

I would save your money and buy the 7100 or is it up to 7300 now? Either way the D3200 is a pig. I have one and the detail quality on my one is disgusting. Turns beautiful photos into rubbish. just look at the thread I started called 3200 blues and you will see the images my 3200 destroyed.

Sorry to hear about the quality of your photos coming out of the D3200.
I'm glad now that I didn't spend the extra 100 dollars, and went with the D3100 instead.

Come to think of it, I didn't like the quality of the photos my 3100 produced at first either.
After much practicing and putting the effort into what I wanted to achieve, my photos somehow improved and are now turning out to my liking.

Maybe your 3200 will be the same after some time.

I'm going to say this probably has more to do with the user and not the camera. I've seen great pictures taken with the D3200 and I have one myself and can get good shots out of it. Try practicing with it more.

Look at the photos I have taken with the D3200, that I have posted on this site, then click he facebook link under my avatar and look at those. my 8 megapixel camera takes better shots than my 24 mega pixel camera. Its the detail that is lacking so how can this be the users fault

I second it. Why get a D3200 when D3300 is there. That said it all depends on your finances. I would also suggest that you buy the D3300 with only the kit 18-55 lens and a UV filter. Use it for at least 3 months and then think of upgrading. You can look up my images in the D3300 section.

You have to understand a few things about images posted on the net. Every program reformat the images to suit their size requirements. Some sites have good programs some bad. Facebook reduces the resolution quite a lot.

As the saying goes the camera is unbiased - it never takes good or bad shots. It is the person behind the camera who is responsible for the quality. With increase in resolution from 8MP to 24MP a lot of technique has to be upgraded (I should know as I have the D70 (7MP), D300 (12MP) and the D3300 (24MP).
. The camera should be steady. Any shake - whether hand or subject shows up more. My hands shake a lot, so I either use high shutter speeds or use the Flash to freeze the frame.
. The lenses have to be focused more precisely. What may pass on 8MP may be soft on 24MP. Please check the AF accuracy. Many a times the AF is off a fraction and may result in softer images. My kit lense and 35mm lens have difficulty in focusing when the object has low contrast or the light is low. If you are aware of this then you will always cross check in live view when you want razor sharp images.
. The diffraction kicks in at lower apertures. F22 was fine with the D70 (7MP), but on a 24MP sensor it will give a soft image. F8 is more or less the limit. I normally limit it to F5.6 in primes.
. VR at high speeds can cause soft images. Be aware of this and switch VR off when shooting beyond 1/500 sec.

There is a lot of criticism of the D3200 and its kit lens. The D3300 and its kit lens are optically same, and I am getting razor sharp images with heck of a lot of resolution. Yes it took me a couple of days to get my technique right - hence my initial shots are quite soft.

put a granny in a corvette and Jeff Gordon in a Datsun B210 and let them run 10 laps at Martinsville and see who wins, in other words it's the operators fault.

I'm reminded of something from many, many years ago. A couple of friends and I went up into the mountains over Santa Barbara to do some shooting. All I had was my dad's old .22 rifle, nothing particularly impressive. The other two friends had quite a variety of different guns.

At some point, we found a couple of old beer bottles, which we set up on a spot and then retreated perhaps a hundred yards or so away. Both my friends, each with whatever he thought his best gun was, were blasting away, shooting at those bottles and missing.

Somewhere in all of this, I fired just two shots, and with those two shots, took out both the bottles. Various other experiences during the day consistently showed that in spite of having the least impressive firearm present, I was the best marksman among the three of us.

A few days later, a third friend filled me in on a few details that I hadn't previously known. One of the friends with whom I was shooting that day had recently received an unexpected windfall, and out of it had spent about $1200 on a rifle, and was convinced that with it, he was going to be a great marksman. The day after that shooting excursion, discouraged by having been shown up by me with my dad's humble .22, he turned around and sold that rifle for half what he had paid for it.

The best rifle in the world won't make you a good marksman, if you just don't have the skill and aptitude for it, and neither will the best camera make you a good photographer. I'd bet that if you put a D4 in Iron lung's hands, and handed his D3200 to any of us that actually know what we're doing, the best pictures by far will come from the D3200.

There are some great deals on Refurbished cameras. I have bought refurbished cameras and lenses from the place and they are difficult to tell from new. They also come with a new warranty (1 year) so you really can't go wrong with them. Here is my suggestion

Nikon D3300 Digital SLR Camera Body (Black) - Factory Refurbished includes Full 1 Year Warranty this is body only

for a standard kit lens the refurb is perfect
Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR II DX AF-S Zoom-Nikkor Lens - Factory Refurbished includes Full 1 Year Warranty

So you end up spending $416 dollars for the D3300 and 16-55 lens.

A new D3200 with the same lens will cost $447

Just a suggestion
