Can't take another picture after first shot is taken

Hello. After I power on my camera and take the first shot, the little green LED at the bottom right of the camera stays lit for approx 30 seconds and I can't take another shot until it goes away. Does anyone know what might be going on?

It means your memory card is extremely slow. But not knowing what camera you're using makes giving you any other advice impossible

What kind of memory card are you using? The green light is on while the data is being written to the SD card so if you're using an old, slow card it might be time to upgrade. If you're not using a Class 10 card, you really should be. The class is a number enclosed in a "C" and will be on the front of your card. You can see it in this picture just under the word "Lock" on the left.

I am using a Sandisk Ultra 16GB 30mb/s class 10 card. I should have clarified that this only seems to happen after the first picture. After the first picture is taken, the LED is lit for around 30 seconds, then I can take pictures again without issue - I can take consecutive pictures.

Okay THAT is weird. I have no clue what could be causing that. I would reformat the card in the camera or try using a different card. If neither of those things correct the problem, I'm out of ideas.

First try a different memory card that you will have formatted IN the camera. Then try removing the battery out of the camera for one entire night, then try to do the two button camera default reset as explained in your user manual. If this does not solve your problem contact Nikon or the store where you got the camera and ask for a repair estimate.

Best of luck.
