Hello everyone, I am new to this site and new to the SLR world.

Just got the D3200 a few months ago and have a question. How do I get the date stamp feature to turn on so it shows up on my images so that it ultimately shows up on my prints?

I looked in the manual and understand what I am supposed to do and have the "date stamp" on "OK" but when I scroll through the images in the viewer, I don't see the date on the images (I can see the details along w/ the date along the bottom screen tho).

I once got this right and had the date stamp show up on my images on the bottom of my images but this stopped happening and I am trying to figure what I did wrong.

Thanks in advance!

ummm....question: why would you want to see a date stamp on the face of your picture when there's no need for it. It's in the EXIF info on every picture you'll ever take with your camera. It's called metadata.
Google this: FxIF .....then download the program (just the way I spelled it there). It tells you how to use it, too.
Here's an example of what I'm talking about with this sample image I took awhile ago. Look at the 3rd line down.

Taking pics for my parents of their grandchild (my son) and they want dates on all the printed pics.

If you have them printed there is usually a date on the back of commercially printed pics. I think that having an orange date on a picture kind of ruins it.

Another vote for leaving it off and forgetting how to turn it on. Many other ways to add a date after the photo is taken that doesn't ruin the original.

Whether the info is contained in the EXIF information is irrelevant. If a person wants the date/time stamp on the front of the picture then it should be their choice. Because of people who think like YOU (saying info is in EXIF file - no need for it to be on the front of your picture) the camera companies have decided not to offer date imprint on many of their APS-C cameras which is retarded.

Shame on any company who decides not to add a date/time imprint function on the front of the camera without needing DPOF. Shame on the BULLIES who got the camera manufacturers to do something so stupid and retarded. Maybe I could understand their logic with full frame cameras, but an APS-C camera. Really? Duh - retarded!

Camera buyers: if a date/time stamp is important to you then please find out if it is offered BEFORE buying the camera. I bought the Nikon d7100 which is a paperweight without my stamp. I wanted to buy the FujiFilm XT or XE2 yet neither of those offer date/time stamps either.

What does the camera format FX or DX (APS-C) have to do with it having the ability to print the date or not? Amateurs are not the only photographers that us a APS-C format camera professionals do as well . I understand the there are people who want to see the date on the image witout having to look at the EXIF data, but I also agree that it ruins the image. Also, I seriously doubt that the manufactures were bullied into not making that feature available. Sounds like you needed to take your own advice before buying the D7100.

krbtv...to me you're just a troll that doesn't have the stones to show who you are or where you're from. You're probably not even a photographer...just someone who likes to stir up the pot! You like to throw around the word retarded a lot. Keep it up and you'll find you have a short stay here!

I do not like date stamp on my images, makes me feel that I am shooting a documentary. Still, after going through the thread, I got curious and tried it in my D3300. There is a menu item - Print date, under settings. Set it and shot a test shot, nothing. Then went to the manual. Ah Ha, it seems that this feature will work only with jpeg and not RAW. Shot in jpeg, and viola, the date stamp appeared.

There it is at the bottom right.

EDIT: Reason for the speed to show 10/xxxxxx. I resized this image using Microsoft Office Picture Manager. It changed the EXIF data. Till date I was always using NX-D beta, which postedthe correct exif data.

First of all I would suggest that you read up the manual thoroughly before condemning an equipment. Nikon does provide in camera "Date Stamp"

There are photographers who are after image excellence & process their images in computers. Then there are photographers whose sole job is to document events. The former do not want a date stamp, for the latter it is an added bonus.

Why want a date stamp?
. Imagine going on a vacation, shooting few hundred images, and then after printing you are at your wits end on the sequence. An automated date stamp would help.
. A lot of sports photographers shoot jpeg primarily for the burst rate and ease of sending the images to the client. A date stamp helps a lot in determining the time frame of the shot.
. When I was shooting images of road conditions and work done, a date stamp would have been welcome (I did not have it), as it would jog my memory while writing the report.
. For hard core documentation - forensic, investigation etc, date stamp used to lend authenticity in film days. Today with digital, any one can add any thing to the prints, but if the date stamp is in the initial image it is difficult to change it without exotic image processing.

That said, not every one wants or needs it. For those who want to extract the maximum from the images the RAW format provides the medium. As you will be post processing the images from RAW, there is no need to have a date stamp in the image shot, the software will provide it if you want.

Ah! That program! OK, yeah, I think it's just for Firefox, Sam (which you should be using anyway, instead of Internet Explorer! ;) ) .

And no worries about spelling the name wrong. Happens a lot for some reason. :)

This thread... Again?

There are numerous ways to view the date in the EXIF data. If you want to PRINT the date on your photos, like the OP was inquiring about doing, and your camera does not support the function natively, try using Photo Dater and do it after the fact.
