Focus Point

You need to adjust your chose autofocus mode to Single Point AF. I don't know how to do this on your particular camera. Google and your manual have the answers though!

I like your approach Maureen. Keep it nice and simple single point stuff. You will need to learn about your exposure and focus lock functions and how to use them relative to focusing and composing your snaps. It is a somewhat less automated way but it gives you more control and more control means less errors.

hi maureen if your using a d3100 use the menu button on lower left of screen then use the top or bottom of the round selector on the back of the camera to get down to the af setting then hit ok then rt or left side of circle to change setting
