Hello there... (and is this a good lens?)

Hi there,

I've had a D3100 for a couple of months and am enjoying the learning curve. Also starting to add bits and bobs like lenses to my kit. I got a 35mm f/1.8 a few weeks ago and it's great.

Was also wondering about a zoom lens, and a friend recommended the Sigma 70-300, which is now only 99 quid on amazon! I'm wondering if it's worth getting, or should I stump another 40 or 50 quid for the Nikon 55-200 (which has VR)?

Opinions would be appreciated!

Cheers,

Chris

I love the 35mm 1.8 also, I take great shots with it..

How fast is the Sigma? I think at that zoom you'd definitely want some VR. I have the Nikor 55-200 with the same speed as the kit lens, and it takes pretty nice pictures.

Yes, nice pics, Audi.

The Sigma has the same f range as the Nikkor 55-200, I think. It starts at f/4 anyway.

I think I'll hold on for the Nikkor. I shoot a lot of hand-held, so it will help.
