d3100 infrared pics?

hi does anyone have any experience using infrared filters on the d3100. from what i have read not all cameras can shoot infrared attached is a pic of the desired result that i copied from google .if so what filters gave good results and what adjustments are needed on the camera?

Not on the D3100 but on my D300..I bought a filter from China {$28.00] DHD IR720...

I'm buying another one shortly, I think it is the IR680...The lower the number the more colour they let through..

No adjustments to the camera...You will need a tripod, most exposures will take several seconds...

hi pedroj i got my infrared lenses today the attached photo is one of my first photos.how do i change colors or is that dependent on lens?otherwise it appears to just be a red lens.....

Picasa actually has an infared filter for post-processing. Works pretty well!

thanks for the feed back i just uploaded the pic...lol looks much different from whats out on web...i will play with raw and see what i can do

There is a viewer and an editor. Pretty cool for free!

what i actually want is a channel mixer and a stacking program. without having to download a bunch of programs one is for my ir stuff the other for astro stuff..

I'm wondering if the d3100 can be converted to permanently shoot infared.

from what i have read yes it can but it runs roughly 500$....but thats going to limit subject matter so it was not really what i wanted to do
