I have a D3100 and would like to control the functions including live view remotely on my laptop or mobile phone Samsung galaxy A40.
I have seen on the internet that the D3100 isn’t capable of this function
I am hoping someone has found a solution to this and can point me in the direction to solve this problem.
Thank you

I kind of doubt a D3100 can be connected with a smartphone that way. The D3100 was developed close to the advent of general smartphones so I don't think there was anything added to the D3100 that would allow shooting or seeing Live View. You should be able to use a manual trigger off camera, but it won't allow you to see the images in Live View.

You might want to read up on this article:

All of the D3xxx series are pretty "basic" cameras, for lack of a better way to say it. My first DSLR was a D3000, which I really loved for taking pictures to learn on, and I have plenty to learn yet. The D3xxx series has some limitations on which lenses will autofocus, which I had to go manual focus on my telephoto zoom because I didn't really realize that. It did help me to learn!

So, anyways, Nikon's program that will even control cameras, Camera Control Pro 2, has a list of supported cameras, and the D3xxx's did not make the list. You can check it here: https://downloadcenter.nikonimglib.com/en/download/sw/181.html

The D5xxx series are the next "level" up cameras, and are supported. The D90 is also supported, and will autofocus with most lenses that won't autofocus with the D3100.

I hope this helps, although it probably isn't the solution that you are looking to find.

Thank you for the quick replies.
I have looked at options and it looks that the use of remote working with my D300 won’t be happening.
This was just something I thought would be nice to trye. But not to be.
Thanks.

There are few computer apps that allow remote controlling cameras. For example, digiCamControl for pc. Though most of them are limited for lower end d3xxx in disabled Live View, bulb, and video functions. Yet, remote controlling camera still works. You will need to find a way to connect camera to your computer. GL

And that's a shame, Mike. Even Nikon's WU-1a Wireless Mobile Adapter isn't compatible with the D3100 although it is with the D3200. No Live View but it would allow images to be transferred to a smart phone for viewing if you had a compatible body. :sorrow:
