New Camera - Firmware update and misc question!

Hello,

Ordered my D3100 through amazon, should arrive tomorrow. problem though, is, that it is like a computer, i believe this thing needs a firm ware update.

2 Questions related to this:

1. How do i check which version it is currently on after i turn it on?
2. Do I need to update to the newest firmware? and if so, what is it?

As far as firmware goes, i know in certain products, some firmwares actually make things worse. So that's why question # 2 is there, should i even bother with an update or should i just use it as is?

Next:
Is there anything that I should watch out for / do when i first use it?
You know what i mean, like the first time you buy a new fridge you have to run the water filter/ice cube making machine on for days to rinse out the bad water, etc....

or like you have to heat the a grill for a little bit after you're done grilling to burn everything to ash and then use a brass brush to clean it?

You know...those "tricks"

Thank you!

This is the page you want to go to: D3100 firmware: A/B:1.01

I strongly suggest you read it CAREFULLY and follow the instructions EXACTLY. You may not even need the upgrade....check your camera first for the installed firmware. However, if you do need it, this is the page you want. Let us know how it turns out for ya. :)

Go to your Setup Menu, scroll down to where it says Firmware Version and read what version it has. Then you'll know how to proceed. The link I gave you in a previous post gives complete instructions on how to upgrade firmware, should it need upgrading. Print out the instructions to make it easier to follow along.

You're fine. If you've bought the camera recently and bought it brand new, chances are the firmware has already been done by the mfg. That's how it is in your case.
