Lens Choice

So I just bought a D3100; it came with the 18-55mm lens and I want to get a longer zoom, somewhere in the vicinity of 55-300mm. I'm looking at the Nikon 55-300 f/4.5-5.6 G ED VR AF-S DX zoom, but am also considering the Tamron
70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD Macro, and the Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 AF. Would anyone comment on the pros and cons of these lenses and what your choice might be? Thanx in advance.

First choice: Nikon 55-300 VR Nikon with Nikon...can't beat it. Great quality for the money.

Second choice: Sigma 70-300 Nice sharp lens, good quality, great price.

Don't bother with the Tamron. It's a Macro lens, not what you want in a zoom lens.

If you can afford it, get the Nikon 70-300 VR. Awesome lens, proven workhorse, but more expensive.

I might be parting with my Nikon 70-300 VR now that I just got the 2x teleconverter to link with the 70-200 2.8... just sayin :)

It is now officially for sale. I see them on ebay for $299 - $350 so...

There is a new magazine out called "NPhoto" out of the UK. First issue Dec, 2011. In it there is a detailed comparison of eight "budget" telephoto lenses. It includes the Nikon 55-200, 55-300, 70-300, Sigma 70-300 DG OS and four others.
I'm thinking about getting the Sigma based on the the article. I think you will find useful info. Good luck.
