Will This Work?

Can someone please tell me if the lens in the link will work in my D3100? And what features will work and what won't compared to the 18-55mm kit lens usually included with the camera. Tamron AF 70-300mm F/4 - 5.6 Di LD Macro 1:2 Lens (Nikon, Built-in Motor) at Hunts Photo & Video - 100 Main Street - Melrose, MA 02176 I have a Nikon 55-200mm I bought for the camera, but have found I want to be able to get closer with a 300mm, but am looking at cost and justification. Thanks for any and all answers.

I have the VR turned off on my lenses. I found out that the VR was causing my pictures to be less sharp than I wanted.

Since I turned it off my shots are a lot sharper. Who knew?

Thanks for the quick answer, I have read where having a VR lens can be helpful, and at other times, it just is an unneeded extra. Reason being is once the camera has focused on the object of the photo, having VR is, and I hate to use the word, immaterial. Perhaps in needing a quick shot, the VR comes in and works. I am having a lot of fun with my D3100 every weekend weather permitting, and just ordered the Tamron 70-300mm for overnight delivery. I will let you know how it works out. Thanks again, John.

Sorry, don't listen to me. I was unaware that 3rd party companies made AF-S "type" lenses. Post some shots of the lens itself and some shots with it as well. I'm now anxious to see what this lens can do. It may be a future purchase...

After surfing for Nikon camera fitting lenses. I found the Tamron I mentioned in earlier in the thread, and I believe Sigma also make a lens with similar attributes that will work too. The lens is due to arrive to me today, but of course it is raining, so trying it out will probably have to wait until tomorrow, that is if it arrives on time.
