Anyone ever encountered this SD card error ?

Hello forum.

I found this place with passionate and technical people so I guess I'd give it a try with my problem.

My D3100 has been acting weird since monday and I'd like to know if anyone had the same bug (and how you fixed it !)

When I insert a SD card, my D3100 says "No SD card inserted."
When I remove the SD card, my D3100 says "This memory card cannot be used. Card may be damaged. Insert another card."

It seems something is wrong with the SD card detection. Anyone had that issue or know where the "sd card detector" is and how it's supposed to look/work ?

Regards,

first thing I would do is... put the card in the camera, and do the factory camera reset as outlined in the manual, and see if that corrects the issue...

First off... what type of card is it? It's possible that it is a cheap sd card and it has failed. While it may read in certain electronics, it would not read in others. Check with your computer first and if you are able to salvage any data from it. It would be very worthwhile to do so. Then discard the SD.

Based on that description I agree this sounds more like a card detection issue than it does an actual card fault. I would still try a different, known-good SD card just to see what happens. If the error continues you almost have to assume there is a problem with the body not properly registering card insertion.

Hello guys and thank you for your feedbacks.
JH Foto : it works in a Canon EOS we have at work and an old Canon Powershot @skene : Sandisk Ultra 16GB, shoudn't be a bad one ! It's readable in other digital cameras and USB Reader @480sparky : if you mean is it write protected ? No it's not. Don Kuykendall : Already tried that option, didn't work. @weebee : yes computer can have fun with the card Horoscope Fish : Exactly my point, sounds like my camera isn't working properly. I'll post a youtube video to point that out.

Here is a video of my issue with the camera (I have a bit of the flu but I'm french anyway, so the accent can't be good, yet it should be understandable)

If that's related to somekind of card detection pin any idea where I could find a service manual ?

Check the card for physical damage. Check the contacts both on the card and in the camera.

Does the card appear good? Is there anything amiss around the contacts? Do they appear clean?

Shine a flashlight into the camera and inspect the contacts inside as best you can. Is there any foreign material or objects?

Did you check my youtube link ? It detects a card when there are not.

Ok I get rid of it the HARD way.

Now I can't eject the card (with the auto-eject feature) but at least it's detected ^^

Thank you all for your guesses and tries !
