auto focus does not work

I did have a d70 and all auto focus worked on all lens. I just got a d3100 and only the lens marked af-s nikor worked. the others do not have the af-s marking..they are a quantray 70-300 and tamarand 28-200. the auto focus motors worked on the d70, but not on the d3100. the only way I can focus is manually...is there a command on the d3100 that is missed or do I have to replace the other lens with af-s nikor ..how can I get these lens's to wokr

The D3100 will only auto focus with AF-S lenses. So you have to sell those and get AF-S lenses or put up with manual focus. Or buy a camera body that has the internal focus motor such as the D90, D7000 and D7100.

Thank you for your input...well that answers my questions...now I have to look for af-s lens or go back to my d70...but on the other hand manual focus is not that bad, just got the camera yesterday so I am going to play with, at least the one af-s is a 18- 70 mm and the one that came with camera is 19-55 and both of them are nikors
Thanks,Kas

D7000 or D90 would focus your existing lenses and give you better high iso performance than the D70 did.
